Pennsylvania state Rep. Matt Baker has introduced a bill in the state House that ban smoking in the state’s casinos. HB 1309 would remove all but two exemptions from the state’s 2008 Clean Indoor Air Act, which banned smoking in all indoor spaces, exempting hotels, casinos, bars, truck stops, private clubs and others. Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board releases reopening protocols for casinos. The guidelines include a requirement for all patrons entering a casino to wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth areas. “Pennsylvania casino workers and patrons are put at significant excess risk of heart disease and lung cancer from (secondhand smoke) through a failure to include casinos in the state’s smoke-free. The Pennsylvania Health Department currently allows casinos to operate as long as guests are not vaping or smoking, with this being a temporary measure. A similar smoking ban bill is currently being considered by the Senate in Pennsylvania, state Rep. Frankel has said. Appetite for change beyond PA.
